Our Barneveld Library Summer Reading Program theme is Our Stories Together. The program runs from now until September 4th and has three parts:
Community Reading Challenge
As a community, we have set a goal to read 1,253 books – one for every person in the Village of Barneveld. Depending on how close we come to our goal, we will donate $100 to $400+ to a local charitable organization on behalf of our summer readers as a “Thank You” for the way our selected local non-profit group contributes to our community and helps us build our stories together. Sign up here and I will send you an email with all the information you need to get started. Links to the recording forms are in the "Downloads" section below. Young readers who normally read 100+ page books, regardless of their grade in school, should be registered in the "youth" category and use the "youth/adult" form. Feel free to alter the forms or use your own method as long as you follow the guidelines for counting books.
You can share a story together by taking a Story Stroll at the Barneveld School. Four books will be mounted on the outside of the ball diamond fence at the school. The books are written for toddler through early elementary age children, but suggestions are provided for “strollers” of all ages to interact with the story and each other as they move around the fence to read the next pages. Strolls begin near center field and move to the right toward the school. New books will be posted every two weeks.
July 10 – July 24 On a Summery Saturday Morning
July 27 – August 7 Frog on a Log
August 10 – August 21 The Day the Crayons Came Home
August 24 – September 4 All are Welcome
Packets include four crafts/activities, one to go with each Story Stroll book. Directions are included along with all the materials needed except for scissors and crayons/markers. You can still do the activities/crafts even if you are not able to take the Story Strolls, Activities are geared toward toddler – lower elementary, but all activities have suggestions for including the whole family along with an opportunity to share the completed craft or activity on the library social media pages and in the community. Call the library to tell us how many packets you need and arrange a pick up time.
The library is now open to the public for modified hours and services on Monday through Thursday. Check the home page on this website for the schedule. Curbside pick up continues, and appointments are available for individual or group library use by calling the library.
Thank you for sharing in our story together this summer! Please spread the word to get all of Barneveld reading.
