The Friends of the Barneveld Library presented Barneveld Community Café with $400 on behalf of the 2020 Community Reading Challenge. The 20 participants read 423 books on their way to a goal of 1,253, one book for every Barneveld resident. The more books read, the greater the award to a local non-profit organization. Cliff and Yvonne Hooks manage the Community Cafe which offers home-made meals free of charge in addition to operating as a food distribution center. The generosity and true community spirit of the Hooks made them ideal recipients. Yvonne stated that she has plans to use the award toward the purchase of beef and chicken for next week’s distribution.
